Learning Objectives
By the end of the session the participant will be able to:
- Explain the function and impact of Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs) in formulary design, drug utilization management, and the negotiation of drug pricing and rebates.
- Illustrate the drug distribution and reimbursement pathways, including pricing benchmarks (AWP, WAC, ASP, Net Price), and the flow of funds from manufacturers to patients across various channels.
- Summarize the purpose, eligibility, and compliance requirements of the 340B Drug Pricing Program, including its role in expanding access to care and managing costs for covered entities.
- Differentiate between the major types of diabetes and summarize the key drug classes used in diabetes management, including indications and mechanisms of action.
- Apply current ADA and AACE guidelines to evaluate chronic complications of diabetes and formulate patient care plans through case-based discussion.
